Directors Steve and Barbara Schainman have been creating memorable summers for campers at Mohawk for more than 30 years. They have established a reputation for excellence in working with children ages 3-12. The Schainmans blend an unwavering commitment to meeting the individual needs of each child with superior staff and exciting programs, on 40 acres of remarkable facilities. Since beginning their careers as counselors at Mohawk, Steve and Barbara have been innovators in the camping field. They work year round to refine traditional programs and plan new activities and experiences for each summer. As leaders in the American Camping Association, the Schainmans are frequent speakers at regional, national and international camping conferences.

At Mohawk, our greatest asset is our exceptional, highly trained staff. We carefully select counselors for their maturity, warmth, and experience with children. Seasoned educators lead groups and are assisted by general counselors who are primarily college students. Specialty activities are taught by highly qualified teachers and their assistants, creating layers of adult supervision. We are very proud that our staff includes more than 80 teaching professionals, most of whom return to us year after year Mohawk has particular expertise in working with pre-schoolers. Our renowned pre-school camp is led by nurturing nursery school teachers, more than 20 of whom are drawn from our own Mohawk Country Home School. They are joined by other experienced nursery school teachers and counselors with a flair for working with 3, 4 and 5 year-olds.
