Swim | Camp Mohawk

Families often choose Mohawk specifically because of our renowned swim program

Success in learning to swim depends on a child’s comfort and security level as well as the quality of the teaching. At Mohawk, we combine a supportive teaching philosophy with unparalleled expertise. More than 75 teaching lifeguards, including 20 highly-trained Red Cross Water Safety Instructors, partner with campers’ Head and General Counselors to provide instruction tailored to each child’s needs and ability level. Swim Supervisors regularly evaluate every camper and build a plan with his or her instructor that includes concrete goals for development. Through small-group instruction, our campers – from those who come to us afraid of the water to competitive swimmers – make outstanding progress.
Having eight pools enables Mohawk to place every camper in water that is just the right depth. And keeping the water at a balmy 87 degrees means that every child is eager to swim! Campers swim twice daily, with two-thirds of morning and afternoon periods dedicated to instruction. And the rest of the time? Free swim, games, inflatables, swim noodles, our arcing hydraulic sprayer and amazing water slides complete the incredible Mohawk swim experience!

Mohawk campers are placed in small swim groups at the start of camp based on their abilities as determined by a Water Safety Instructor. Remember, campers often need time to shake off the “winter swim rust,” and many will change their swim group during the summer.

Our campers make tremendous progress throughout the camp season, and each is encouraged to progress at his or her own pace.

Our Senior Campers not only improve their strokes through quality instruction, but also have opportunities to learn diving and basic lifesaving skills through Guardstart.
