Creative exploration and expression is an important part of camp. Whether designing stained glass montages, marshmallow sculptures or rocket cars that race across the basketball court, Mohawk campers develop new interests through exposure to different materials and techniques.
Our arts programs encourage self-expression, develop fine motor skills and provide mementos that remind campers of their Mohawk summer all year long!
CRAFTS, FINE ARTS & JEWELRY-MAKING
Mohawk has several Arts and Crafts areas (including one just for preschoolers) that each specialize in different types of projects and media. Projects range from the traditional to the unexpected – from painting, beading, and lanyards to mosaics,
t-shirt design, puppet-making and rock fountains.
Campers measure, saw, sand, hammer, and bolt as they build projects that become more complex as children get older. Campers learn how to properly and safely handle tools under the close supervision and instruction of our highly trained Woodshop staff. We begin with raw wood ready to shape, assemble and finish into projects like benches, birdhouses and colorful wooden toys.
MODEL & HOBBY SHOP
This program is beloved by campers of all ages. At different ages, campers make and race cars and planes, tinker with electronics, build and launch toy rockets, make colorful kaleidoscopes, construct and fly kites, assemble plastic model ships and are exposed to the amazing world of hobbies and science. Hobby Shop has been one of the most popular activities for 50 years!
Mohawk has several firing kilns to harden and set the colorful glazes campers use to decorate their handcrafted clay creations. Coil, slab and pinch techniques are used, and older campers can try their hand at throwing a pot on the wheel. Campers create clay masks, trivets, vases, mugs and so much more!
Campers entering 3rd grade and older can dive into full-scale musical productions as part of Mohawk’s elaborate drama program, or put a toe in the water with scene work, character study and drama games. Shows are held in “The Mohawk Performing Arts Center,” complete with professional lighting and sound. Parents are invited to evening performances of shows such as from “The Sound of Music” to “Beauty and the Beast.”
The incomparable “Mr. B” blends classical music, original compositions, music theory and a lot of humor into an outrageous interactive musical experience. Mohawk also has programs that include singing, instruments, songwriting and even camper-produced music videos!
Campers are introduced to a selection of dance genres, including: Modern, Folk, Jazz, and Hip-hop. We also offer yoga and cheerleading!
